Although we function best when we are on the ground, we have a remarkable ability to adapt to our surroundings. In-flight, our bodies must adjust for significant changes in barometric pressure, considerable variation in temperature, and movement at high speed in three dimensions. Aviation would not be possible if we could not compensate for the physiological demands placed upon us by flight. However, there are limitations to the adjustments that the human body can make.
