Departure Procedures
It all starts with a departure!… For the IFR system to work correctly, pilots must learn the standards and the structure of instrument departures. Departure procedures were designed to help simplify complex IFR departure clearances, help reduce frequency congestion, provide obstacle protection, and allow aircraft to transition to the enroute structure of an IFR flight safely.
Course Objectives
- Understand the standards of an IFR departure.
- Learn the difference between SIDs, ODPs, Radar Departures, and VFR Departures.
- Differentiate standard and non-standard takeoff minimums.
